Baby name app like Tinder
Yes, there are several. Right if you like the name, left if you do not, and when you both swiped right on the same name, it is a match. The principle works surprisingly well, right up to the point where the Tinder comparison stops carrying.
Where the Tinder comparison ends
On Tinder, the match is the goal. You found each other; life takes over from there. With names, the match is only the shortlist. At some point we had fourteen mutual matches and stood exactly where we started, just with a shorter list to argue about.
So the most useful question to ask a swipe app is not how nicely it swipes, but what happens afterwards. And the second, underrated one: whether a name you swiped away actually stays away. The moment a name you already rejected resurfaces is the moment you stop trusting an app, and with hundreds of swipes per evening it is a real engineering problem.

- you want to try the principle first; all of these are free to download.
- database size matters more to you than what follows.
- you are searching alone and do not need the couples part at all.

Choosing a name is something you do on the sofa in the evening, not at a desk. So we built an app that feels like that: one card at a time, quiet colours, large type, nothing flashing, nothing nagging, no ads in between. No forms, no results list, no carousel of unlock offers. Look at the screenshots in the App Store and decide for yourself in two minutes.
It does not stop at the match
Twelve mutual matches are not a decision. In the final round you each rate the mutual matches again, separately, and what comes out is an order rather than a list. That is where couples usually get stuck. We did not find a comparable stage between the two partners in the apps compared here; several do offer to narrow the match list together, or to let friends and family vote.
No name comes back
Anything you have swiped away stays away, after a thousand swipes, after weeks. That sounds obvious and is not: it was the single bug that cost us the most work to get right.
Search, and add your own names
When a name occurs to you that was never in the deck, from a grandmother, a book, out of nowhere, you can search for it or add it yourself. It then appears in your partner’s deck like any other name, and you only find out what they think when it matches. No asking, no "so… what do you reckon?"
No ads, not even on the free tier
The free version shows no advertising at all. Instead you get 100 swipes per partner per 24 hours. Most of the other apps here fund their free tier with ads. BabyName even sells removing them as a $0.99 purchase.
Where Namore is weaker: it is new, with few ratings. If you want the reassurance of a long established app, the bigger ones above are the safer pick.
